Ithaca College Students Encouraged to Celebrate Safely

IC Kicks Back and Jedi Jam will offer students food, games, and music.

With the last day of classes for the year approaching, Ithaca College is encouraging its students to celebrate safely and to be good neighbors to their fellow South Hill residents.

In a message sent to students, Vice President for Student Affairs and Campus Life Bonnie Prunty asked them to celebrate responsibly and respectfully.

“If you plan to take part in any end of semester festivities, both sponsored on-campus gatherings and unsanctioned off-campus celebrations, I stress that you please be mindful of your personal well-being and be good neighbors to all the individuals that make up our vibrant Ithaca College and greater South Hill communities,” she wrote. “In particular, I ask that our students pay special attention to abide by all local laws and noise ordinances, and to not trespass or deface any private property in our shared community.”

Carnival tents, popcorn, and words.

Prunty highlighted the on-campus opportunities that students will have to celebrate safely:

IC Kicks Back—Friday, May 3, 37 p.m., Campus Center Quad
This annual event is open to all students free of charge and includes barbeque favorites, carnival games, inflatables, sweet treats, and live music. It will be followed by a Bureau of Concerts show featuring two touring artists taking the stage from 7:00–10:00 p.m.

Annual IC Community Brunch—Saturday, May 4, 9 a.m.3 p.m., Campus Center Dining Hall
Open to all students free of charge, whether or not they have an existing IC meal plan, featuring a special brunch menu.

Jedi Jam—Saturday, May 4, 11 a.m. –1 p.m., Campus Center Quad
In honor of Star Wars Day (May the 4th Be With You!), the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Life will host a Jedi Jam experience. Students are invited to take part in fun Star Wars–themed activities, lawn games, music, special sweets and refreshments, and a Star Wars costume contest.

“I hope to see you at some of these exciting upcoming celebrations,” Prunty concluded. “Together, let’s remember to continue to support and uplift one another, celebrate responsibly, and make the most of every moment as we enter the final days of the 2023-24 academic year!”
