A Unique Partnership
Something that sets Ithaca College apart from other gerontology programs
is our unique partnership with Longview, a nearby residential facility
for older adults. Students from the college can participate in activities
at Longview, and Longview residents can take classes at the college.
As you might expect, this partnership has great benefits for gerontology
students, many of whom do their field work at Longview.
"I looked at [several] colleges...and Ithaca College stood out
from all of them. Especially with the Longview partnership. The other
schools didn't have anything like it. And gerontology as a major was
very new at these other schools and not as well developed as it is here.
That's why I chose Ithaca. I made the right choice. I'm very happy here."

"We volunteer at Longview a lot, but also seniors at Longview can
take classes at Ithaca College. I love it when there's older adults in
my classes, especially when the classes are about aging. It just really
enriches your educational experience."

"I want to emphasize how unique the partnership with Longview is.
Earlier this year some Japanese film makers came here to do a documentary
about the partnership. They picked Ithaca College out of all possible
places—that shows something."

"The faculty is supportive and very involved working with seniors
in the community. The partnership with Longview is huge because it gives
you a direct link to the older people in the community so that you can
have a personal experience, not just learning from textbooks. Personal
interactions are a lot more important."
