" Grand class and enlightened emotion..."

These are the words that Les Cahiers de la Guitare used to describe the playing of Pablo Cohen upon his debut recital at the Salle Cortot in Paris in 1991. "Fluid and delicate shape" wrote the Philadelphia Inquirer in reviewing his rendering of Giuliani's Concerto for Guitar and Strings with the Concerto Soloists Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia. At his debut at the Ho-Am Hall for Performing Arts in Seoul in 1990, the Korea Times praised him as "one of the foremost South-American guitarists."

More recently, he had the distinction of recording the premier of Carlos Guastavino's Jeromita Linares with the Camerata Bariloche chamber orchestra of Argentina for Dorian Records. Gramophone, Nov. 95 gave it "a cordial recommendation: outstandingly fine playing of a repertoire few of us know." Cohen's transcriptions of Chick Corea's Children Songs along with music by "third stream" composers, represent an exciting new direction for classical guitar in the 1990s.

An engaging performer, Cohen has participated in solo, ensemble, and orchestral concerts in the United States, Europe, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Festival appearances have included Philadelphia's Mozart on the Square, the Festival Casals in Puerto Rico, the Carrefour Mondial de la Guitare in Martinique, The Geneva International Festival, and Musickfest '95 in Betlehem, Pennsylvania. Performances during the 1996ñ97 season included appearances at Carnegie Hall, Tel-Aviv Guitar Festival, Carrefour Mondial de la Guitare in Martinique, Calcaño Festival in Caracas, "Festival de Guitarra Clásica" in Buenos Aires; and recitals at universities and concert series in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

During the 1998ñ99 season, Cohen appeared in New York at State University of New York (Potsdam and Fredonia), Binghamton University, Skidmore College, Eastman School of Music, Cornell University, and Ithaca College; also at Berkeley College of Music and New England Conservatory (Boston); Temple University (Philadelphia), West Chester University (PA); and at the Sierra Nevada Guitar Society. Also, this season Pablo Cohen performed Concierto de Aranjuez by J. Rodrigo and Romancero Gitano, for choir and guitar by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco.

Pablo Cohen graduated from Temple University with a doctorate in musical arts. He is an assistant professor of guitar at Ithaca College and an affiliated artist at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York; and he is guitar professor at Mansfield University in Pennsylvania. Cohen has received numerous prizes and awards for his performances in national and international competitions. Recently he received the Music Teachers National Association Award for his outstanding teaching.
