"The Good, Bad, and the
Ugly"
Purpose:
The purpose of
this assignment is to familiarize you with various elements of web page
design and assist you in discriminating between "good" and "bad" web
design.
Assignment:
-
First, think
carefully about elements of good and bad web design. Here some resources to help you get started:
-
-
-
Cool Pages - Examples of cool
web pages to check out, organized by different effects.
-
Second,
search the web and find 2 web pages pertaining to the field of physical
education, exercise science, sport science, recreation, or health. One page should reflect the elements of good design. The second page should reflect the elements of bad design. To enhance the contrast between "good" and "bad" design,
try to find the "extremes" of each.
-
Third, open up Word and paste in the URL of each page as well as a screen shot of each page (Print Screen). For the good web site, write a 400 word, multi-paragraph paper describing why the design was good. For the "bad" site, write a 400 word, multi-paragraph paper, explaining why the design was bad. Then list briefly how you would improve and/or change the
bad site. In writing up your review of each web page, be sure to incorporate the information pertaining to good and bad design that you found from the reading and from thinking about the importance of design elements such as proximity, alignment, contrast, repetition, and readability. Be sure to cite the web sites where you found your information pertaining to good and bad design.
Evaluation:
You will be evaluated on
elements included in your write up as well as examples you have
chosen to represent different facets of web page design.
