Welcome

Academic Enrichment Services (AES) is the primary learning support unit at Ithaca College.
We offer free professional and peer tutoring in gateway courses to majors in the various schools and plans are underway to initiate supplemental instruction in select courses for Fall 2008.  Student success seminars and workshops facilitated by AES staff enable students to interact in group discussions. The goals of these small and larger group settings include:

  •  helping students deepen their appreciation for the scholarly and
     intellectual opportunities at Ithaca College;
  •  providing opportunities for leadership and professional development;
  •  helping student build essential life skills;
  •  guiding participants through processes that enable them to individually
     and corporately arrive at solutions to their academic and personal
     challenges; and
  • creating a venue for networking and meeting new people on campus.

Facilitators also suggest and teach new skills and behaviors that challenge students to make the developmental shifts that are critical to success during their four year experience.

Ithaca students who use AES services not only benefit from learning support, but additional Program offerings assist students with:

  •  professional development;
  •  leadership and character development; and
  •  social and cultural support.

Collaboration with student affairs units, student organizations, and the City of Ithaca make this happen.  The Summer Institute - a joint venture between AES and the Office of Multicultural Affairs – is a great example of a highly successful campus partnership.  For three weeks in July approximately 50 incoming students have the opportunity to preview Ithaca and get a taste all of the services listed above, and other hallmark experiences that flag the onset of their Ithaca College journey.

Finally, AES is home for two state funded programs: the Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) and the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP).  We provide specialized support to African American, Latino, Asian, and Native American (ALANA) students; international students and students for whom English is a second language; and coordinated outreach to students living in the first-year residential halls. Services to disabled students and students with learning differences are also available through AES.

AES Faculty/Staff Associates help us keep our programs and services fresh and viable for today’s college students; and we also appreciate feedback from Ithaca students.  We welcome all students who have a passion for learning, and are committed to academic and personal excellence.
