As a math major or minor at Ithaca College, you'll be preparing for a career in industry, government, or education that requires and values creative thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Our mathematics teaching program leads to initial New York State teacher certification; it combines solid coursework and a semester of student teaching. Additional fieldwork opportunities exist through our partnership with the Frederick Douglass Academy in Harlem. And Ithaca College is also the national coordinating site for COMPASS (Curricular Options in Mathematics Programs for All Secondary Students), a nationwide effort to improve math studies. With such initiatives, it's no wonder we've produced award-winning teachers.
You may choose one of our dual majors, combining mathematics with computer science, economics, or physics, and you'll be encouraged to undertake collaborative research with your professors. Our graduates have gone on to study for doctorates at prestigious institutions such as Johns Hopkins and Cornell; others have taken jobs as senior systems administrators and actuaries.
