This program lets you combine music with a series of courses in another area of study -- for example, business, journalism, integrated marketing communications, computing, or drama. Thus you'll have the maximum flexibility to tailor your degree to suit your interests and career plans. About half your courses will be in music; the other half will be a combination of liberal arts study and courses in your chosen outside field.
Studying music at Ithaca gives you access to many exciting cross-disciplinary ventures. Perhaps you'll perform on sound tracks for cinema students' film projects or collaborate on operas and musical theater with theater arts majors from the School of Humanities and Sciences. (Cosi fan tutte, Die Fledermaus, Parade, The Threepenny Opera, and The Consul were recent productions.) You'll meet students from Ithaca's four other schools in your residence halls and through your extracurricular activities, as well as in some of your classes -- television-radio and physics majors may study electroacoustic music, and journalism and English majors may enroll in courses such as Music and Media. Ithaca College stresses the importance of the humanistic tradition; accordingly, at least 20 to 25 percent of your academic work will be in the liberal arts, enriching and enlivening your professional studies.
Electives from our other schools and the Division of Interdisciplinary and International Studies are also available. Departments across the College range from art history and writing to business administration and cinema and photography, with intriguing course offerings that allow you to explore any number of interests. Music courses, private lessons, ensembles, and a music minor are available to students majoring in other disciplines.
