Arranging Testing Accommodations Through Support Services

The Student's Responsibilities:

The student is responsible for initiating the request for testing accommodations.

At the beginning of each semester, it is the student's responsibility to meet with the director or assistant director (call 274-1257) to schedule an appointment) to determine appropriate testing accommodations. In most cases, arrangements for alternative testing should be made directly with the instructor (e.g. extended time or alternative exam formats). Faculty members are also responsible for accommodating students with disabilities in the administration of pop quizzes, homework, etc.

The following procedure for scheduling exams through the Office of Academic Support Services for Students with Disabilities should be used if the faculty member cannot accommodate the student:

A. The student must request accommodations for each exam through the Office of Academic Support Services for Students with Disabilities, at least three to five working days in advance of the scheduled exam. Requests that are not received at least one week in advance may not be honored.

Contact Procedure is as follows: Call the Office of Academic Support Services Smiddy Hall Rm. 322A 274-1257

B. Tests will be administered by the Office of Academic Support Services for Students with Disabilities only during normal working hours (9:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Friday 9:00 p.m..-5:00 p.m). As a general rule, exams should be scheduled to coincide with the administration of the exam to the rest of the class. If that is not possible, the student must make alternate arrangements with the professor prior to scheduling the exam.

C. Unless permitted by the faculty member, students may not take additional materials (books, notes, etc.) into the testing room.

D. Upon completion of the exam, the student and the proctor will sign the exam administration sheet. All exam materials are to be returned to the Office of Academic Support Services for Students with Disabilities unless specifically stated otherwise by the professor.

Students should make every effort to arrive at the Office of Academic Support Services about ten minutes in advance of the scheduled exam.
