By combining studies in the biology and chemistry departments, your biochemistry degree from Ithaca will provide a strong foundation for graduate or professional school or for a career in business or industry. Among your options will be medicine, dentistry, optometry, or veterinary programs. A degree in biochemistry can also prepare you to enter the agricultural technology field and to study the genetic engineering of foods, a topic of increasing interest in an overpopulated world.

We've designed our program to give you time to decide on a concentration. During the first two years you can follow either the biology or chemistry track, and studies in the humanities, social sciences, and fine arts provide a broad base to the curriculum. Specialization begins in your junior year with courses in genetics, biochemistry, and physical chemistry.

As in our chemistry and biology programs, the emphasis is on hands-on research in small groups. You'll also get experience in the technical literature of the profession and the presentation of research results -- good skills for any career in science. You'll learn to speak with confidence about how things in the scientific world really work.
