Communication Management and Design (B.S.)

The CMD Experience and You

CMD -- A unique program in which you will develop a comprehensive mastery of communication as well as an understanding of the impact of communication on an organization’s success.

Organizations survive by allowing people to work together and share information -- by communication. They thrive by figuring out how to do things well -- by management. And they become great by setting significant goals and creating strategies and tools to achieve them -- by design.

As a CMD student you will learn how to put these principles into practice by acquiring skills in

  • problem solving and critical thinking
  • project management and teamwork
  • written and oral presentation

mastering the tools of media and design, such as

  • multimedia computer applications for creating graphics and websites
  • desktop publishing for producing newsletters and PR materials
  • productivity software for enhancing project development and decision making

studying the underlying theories in

  • leadership and management
  • visual and media literacy
  • motivation and persuasion

exploring how people learn new information by

  • designing instructional materials, both traditional and web-based
  • creating “serious” games
  • planning meetings and events

gaining hands-on experience managing real-world communication issues by

  • engaging in case studies, simulations, and projects
  • participating in internships available in the United States and abroad
  • consulting with actual clients on and off campus

Our students graduate with a unique skill: the ability to make a difference in the world through communication.
