
The outdoor adventure leadership major is designed for individuals who are enthusiastic about outdoor activities such as backpacking, kayaking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and wilderness travel, and who would like to work in the outdoors in a leadership position. Theory and experiential learning are combined to build outdoor recreation knowledge and skills. Students also develop leadership abilities to teach outdoor recreation programs using sound judgment and decision-making skills.

Certification: Graduates are eligible to apply for Wilderness Education Association certification, which is recognized by employers across the country for developing environmental ethics and enhancing the safety standards of adventure travel.
Careers: Careers in outdoor adventure are a thriving aspect of the leisure profession. Opportunities exist in outdoor leadership, outdoor education, team building, camp management, natural resource management, environmental interpretation, programs that serve at-risk youth, and outdoor business enterprises, including the adventure travel industry.
