Academic Programs

Division of Interdisciplinary and International Studies

Students in the Division of Interdisciplinary and International Studies pursue knowledge across the borders of departments, disciplines, and cultures. Our degree programs -- culture and communications, gerontology, and legal studies -- challenge students to think critically and independently of the confines of traditional academic curricula, and draw from coursework in media studies, sociology, health administration, and constitutional law, among other subjects. In addition to bringing together faculty and expertise from across the College, DIIS promotes international study in any of Ithaca’s 50 affiliated and exchange programs around the world. DIIS is also home to Center for the Study of Culture, Race, and Ethnicity, which offers courses, seminars, and extracurricular activities that focus on socially marginalized communities and the social and cultural interconnections between the United States and the rest of the world.
