Teacher Education

Sharing the joy of learning is an Ithaca College hallmark. To this end, we prepare future teachers in the Schools of Music, Humanities and Sciences, and Health Sciences and Human Performance. Students and faculty in teacher education programs participate in an active learning community that, like the larger Ithaca College community, emphasizes scholarship, teaching, and service.

The program integrates liberal arts and professional development through disciplined study, critical thinking, research, and inquiry. This knowledge, when advanced and refined by experience, prepares new teachers for the challenges of educating young people.

Our vision and commitment to excellence in teacher education produce graduates with a passion for lifelong learning, the desire and ability to ignite this passion in others, and the commitment to exercise this ability in democratic, culturally responsive teaching and service to diverse students, families, and communities.
