I am very excited to be working in the CSTEP program this year and getting to know all of you! I am a graduate student at Ithaca College focusing on sport psychology. CSTEP is a program that I have learned about through my experience as an intern for Academic Enrichment Services last year, as well as this year. I received a bachelor of science in psychology, so I can assist CSTEP participants in this field regarding career questions or interests. Please don't hesitate to come by my office in AES and ask me any questions. I look forward to meeting everyone and helping out with the CSTEP program at IC!

Involvements: Co-Chair of the President’s Host Committee, President of the Student to Student Mentoring Program, Director of Membership on Ithaca College National Association of Black Accountant (IC NABA) and a Diversity Peer Educator.
Why did I become a peer mentor? Unfortunately students don’t seem to understand the importance of professionalism and career development. How more than ever it is important because of globalization (jobs being outsourced) to refine the skills you already have. Also not being part of some of the larger entities on campus such as Martin Luther King (MLK) Scholars or the Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) I was not being exposed to the appropriate resources. Being part of CSTEP and especially as a Peer Mentor the amount of opportunities present at Ithaca College and beyond are endless. You just need a program like CSTEP to show you where they are. Future Career Goal: Head Research on Autism and other communication disorders

Why I decided to become a peer mentor? I decided to become a peer mentor because through my four years at Ithaca College I felt I have been misguided in terms of opportunities. I found out about CSTEP last year and since then I have been taking strides in bettering myself for my future. Unfortunately, being that I learned about CSTEP in my junior year, I lost a bit of opportunities that I would have loved to be a part of. Furthermore, my goal as a peer mentor is to make sure every student I work with is knowledgeable of the opportunities provided by CSTEP. Future Career Goal: I ultimately want to go to Medical School to become either a Cardiologist or Oncologist. I also have an interest in research in oncology as well.

I first became involved in CSTEP my freshman year. Since then, I have been able to use all of the services this wonderful organization has to offer. Many of the scheduled workshops helped me to survive those first crucial years in higher education. CSTEP also made it possible for me to participate in an educational shadowing experience this past summer with the Handicapped Children's Association in Broome County, NY. Without CSTEP funding I would not have had such an opportunity. Last year I attended the CSTEP state-wide conference in Lake George at the beautiful Sagamore Resort. It was a wonderful experience that I encourage everyone to participate in! I look forward to this upcoming year in CSTEP and cannot wait to meet you all!
