Trena Haffenden is the ESOL and Study Skills Specialist at AES. Contact her at thaffenden@ithaca.edu

Trena Haffenden offers English language support to students who are speakers of other languages.  This includes not only international students, but also immigrant students and other American students who speak a language other than English at home.

She can help students discover new strategies to improve grammar, build reading competency, develop oral proficiency, learn to communicate effectively with professors, and enhance writing skills. If necessary, she can also help students become more familiar with cultural expectations and differences in study habits and communication styles.

Trena also works with students on a one-on-one basis to help them learn how to balance their academics, social life, and community involvement.  She can help students learn how to manage their time, read effectively, prepare for exams, reduce procrastination, and make good use of office hours.

Trena supports students in the development of the skills necessary for them to maximize their potential and to thrive at Ithaca College. She is also an instructor in the Writing Department at Ithaca and each summer she teaches international students at Cornell University.
