
Amanda Angell Whitehead (Interim HEOP Director)
Amanda Angel Whitehead comes to us in an interim capacity from Cornell University where she worked with its HEOP program and Office of Minority Educational Affairs for 10 years as Counselor, Assistant Director, and Director. Amanda is a graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook. There, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Prior to joining us at Ithaca College, Amanda was responsible for the management of Cornell's HEOP/EOP programs including program development, assessment, recruitment and admissions logistics, supervision and training of staff, crisis management, budgeting, liaison to Cornell's 7 colleges; and student advising.
In addition, Amanda played a significant role with the academic component of the Pre-freshman Summer Program. In this capacity, her office was responsible for the registration and oversight of placement testing and course enrollment for 175 students each summer. Amanda is a strong advocate of community partnerships. For Cornell, she was the liaison to many college preparatory agencies (e.g. Gateway and Prep for Prep), the Greater Ithaca Activities Center, Southside Community Center, Ithakids, Big Brother/Big Sister, and other outreach organizations. Amanda is a member of the American College Personnel Association (ACPA); the Association for Equality and Excellence in Education (AEEE); the New York State Association for College Admission Counseling (NYSACAC); and the American Association for Higher Education (AAHE).
