What is the ITHACA Summer Institute?

The Summer Institute is a 3-week preview of IC attended yearly by approximately 50 pre-first year students who want to enhance their success as IC students. This year the Summer Institute is being held from July 9 - 31st. Ithaca has been offering a summer program since the mid-1960’s with well over 1000 students attending over that time-span. Students attending the Summer Institute come from all parts of the country, live in both rural and urban areas, and have various majors.

Pre-first year students who attend the Summer Institute engage themselves in an academically intensive experience that will introduce them to college-level classes, evening study hours, collaborative group studies, evening coffee talk discussions, and individual tutoring sessions. Each year the Summer Institute uses an academic theme to make the summer curriculum more cohesive, thereby allowing the students to have continuity in their classes.
