Summer Institute

Academic Life

students

Summer Scholars in the Summer Institute have the opportunity to prepare for and sample Ithaca college courses in:

  • Humanities and the Arts
  • Fundamentals of Mathematics
  • Statistics
  • Pre-Calculus and Calculus
  • Developmental and Advanced Academic Writing; and
  • Special topics from various majors across the college.

In addition, students will have a seminar in Academic and Career Success; as well as weekly preparation for the annual Colloquium – a formal conference where students present in groups their research about specific topics they researched during the Summer Institute experience.

Course schedules will simulate a typical undergraduate schedule, meaning students will have some classes on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and others on Tuesdays and Thursday.

Group Study Hours

Finally, each evening from 7-9pm, from Sunday – Thursday, students participate in group study, workshops and/or other events to assist them in developing study and critical thinking skills appropriate for the college context; and to engage their intellectual passions and development concerns in unique ways.

Who teaches in the Summer Institute?

Ithaca College faculty and Academic Enrichment Services program staff teach all courses.
