When will online courses be offered?
The tentative schule is as follows:
Fall Semester 2008 GERO 21000 Health and Aging
Summer I session, 2009 -- Aging and Social Policy GERO 31900
Early Fall Weekend 2009 – GERO 38900 Selected Topics in Gerontology
GERO 10100 Introduction to Aging Studies will be offered again as soon as we have a group of students ready to start the program.
Students are encouraged to complete the required workshops while taking online courses. Workshops are generally 2 or 3 hour sessions offered on the Ithaca College campus and in locations in Central and Western NY.
Can I get credit for prior coursework in aging?
You may transfer up to 3 credits provided they are approved by the Gerontology Institute. The
course must cover content areas required for the certificate (you will be asked to provide a syllabus
or course description) and you must have earned a C or better in the course.
How do I know which workshops are approved for the Certificate Program?
This website includes a list of upcoming approved workshops. Generally the workshops will be
scheduled and listed several months in advance of the offering.
You will choose the workshops and conferences from the list of Gerontology Institute offerings that best fit your interests and schedule. The Gerontology Institute offers three workshops (2-3 hours in the afternoon) each semester. We will also approve workshops and conferences sponsored by the Finger Lakes Geriatric Education Center (FLGEC). These workshops are offered in Rochester and in Central and Western New York. FLGEC events will be listed on the Certificate in Applied Gerontology website so that you can plan ahead. The cost for Ithaca College and FLGEC workshops is approximately $10 per contact hour (for example, 2 hour workshop for $20, three hour workshop for $25 – 30).
Who will teach the courses?
Ithaca College Gerontology Institute faculty members teach the three online courses for the
Certificate Program. These are the same faculty who teach courses for the Gerontology
Institute’s major and minor programs in Aging Studies. The final on-campus course will be
taught by the Director or Assistant Director of the Ithaca College Gerontology Institute with
participation of local professionals in the field of aging.
