David J. Bachrach '70 David J. Bachrach '70
Professional Achievement Award

David J. Bachrach has nearly 40 years of health care leadership experience as a senior executive in physician-led academic health care organizations. In 1998 he founded the Physician Executive's Coach, based in Boulder, Colorado. This organization has provided leadership coaching support to more than 75 physician executives at some of the nation's best academic medical centers. David crafted the business out of his interest in the development of leadership skills by physician executives.

To pursue this passion, he took a leave from his own executive responsibilities to investigate how we can better select and develop physician leaders in academic medical centers. This led to several publications and a decision to create the Physician Executive's Coach.

David holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Ithaca College and an M.B.A. in health services management and hospital administration from the University of Missouri. He is a fellow in both the American College of Medical Practice Executives (ACMPE) and the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and has served as the leader of several professional and community organizations. In 2007 he was awarded the Medical Group Management Association–ACMPE's Harry J. Harwick Award for Lifetime Achievement.

David and his wife, Linda '70, have been married since 1969 and have two children, both school teachers in the New York City area, and one granddaughter.
