James J. Whalen Meritorious Service Award

Bill Haines has established a national reputation as a real estate investor, developer, and operator. He has guided the successful acquisition and development of over three million square feet of retail, residential, and commercial real estate during his career.

In 1972, Bill founded the Bromley Companies, and under his leadership, the organization and its projects have won numerous development and architectural awards. Prior to founding Bromley, Bill served as director of housing for Ohio University and director of leasing and management for Tishman Realty & Construction.

Bill's service to Ithaca College runs deep. He was elected to the Ithaca College Board of Trustees in February 1996, serving for 11 years and leading the board as chairman from 2001 to 2006. Currently, he is chair emeritus of the board.

Bill touched many aspects of the College during his tenure on the board. He chaired the board's Executive Committee and the Building and Grounds Committee (both from 1999 to 2001) and was a member of several more: the Educational Policy Committee, Institutional Advancement Committee, Campus Life and Community Committee, Investment Committee, Finance and Audit Committee, and Trusteeship Committee. He was also a member of the Presidential Assessment Subcommittee, Nominating Subcommittee, and Major Gifts Subcommittee.

Outside of his work on the board, Bill was a member of the School of Business Steering Committee and served on the School of Music Campaign Committee.

Bill and his wife, Angela, have two children.
