Over one hundred Ithaca College faculty, staff, and administrators are also graduates of the institution. We can be found in diverse roles in a variety of departments across campus. We share the unique experience of Ithaca College, not only as employees, but as past students and current alumni.
In 1998, a small group of us gathered to discuss whether we might be able to contribute to the spirit of community at Ithaca College. The response was enthusiastic, and the Ithaca College Community Alumni group (ICCA) was formed. We were surprised to learn how many alumni there are in the ranks at Ithaca, and were impressed by the variety of skills and experience represented.
It is important to ICCA that participation be enjoyable, not a burden, given that we already "breathe the College air" for a goodly portion of our week. "Giving" should enhance our relationship with the college, using skills we enjoy. Results of our service should be discernable and should provide satisfaction that we are indeed contributing in a meaningful way.
To this end, ICCA members have created the following mission statement, and we invite all on-campus alumni to participate as their interest and time allows.
Mission Statement
Community: To create a connection between alumni on campus, and share our strong, positive belief that Ithaca College is an excellent place to learn, to work, and to teach; to acknowledge our pride in our Ithaca College education, and the professional positions through which we continue to contribute to its growth; and to use our common bond as alumni to forge communication between diverse departments, staff, and faculty.
Service: To serve the College and its students as a readily available resource of communicators, artists, crafts persons, counselors, scholars, and college historians; to contribute to the academic mission by offering our individual skills, both professional and personal, in creative ways; to provide meaningful support at student and alumni functions; and to offer guidance as students move from college to the professional arena.
Social: To provide opportunities to gather in a social atmosphere, sharing ideas, challenges, and hopes in an informal setting that softens the boundaries of our individual professional roles; to provide an alumni presence on the Ithaca College campus.
We each have memories of Ithaca College from our student years, and these memories have shaped our expectations of what the College is and can become. Participation in the Ithaca College Community Alumni group provides an avenue to express your support and ideas for the future. Please feel free to join at any time. Membership is open and participation in project work is voluntary. Even if you are only able to participate by monitoring the discussion list, we hope you will take that step.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
