Meghan Musnicki '05 Named to U.S. Olympic Rowing Team

Meghan Musnicki, a 2005 Ithaca graduate, has been named to the 2012 U.S. Rowing Olympic Team and will compete in the women's eight boat at this summer's Olympic Games in London. A first-time Olympian, Musnicki will be part of the United States' efforts to defend its gold medal from the 2008 Olympics.

Musnicki was chosen by U.S. Rowing for the eight boat during trials that concluded this week at Mercer Lake in West Windsor, New Jersey. The eight is one of 12 crews that will represent the United States in rowing competition at the 2012 Olympic Games, which will be held from July 28 to August 4 in Eton, Great Britain.

The selection to the Olympic team is the latest accomplishment in Musnicki's decorated national and international rowing career. She helped the United States win gold medals in the women's eight at the last two World Rowing Championships. Her boat set a world record of 5:54.17 in the 2012 heat. Musnicki has twice won the pairs competition at National Selection Regattas.

"I am honored to be able to row with the eight other women in the boat and represent the United States at the games," Musnicki said following Friday afternoon's announcement. "The team may be named, but our work is not done. I'm excited to get back at it -- fine tuning and finding more speed."
