Ithaca College students spent a recent Saturday afternoon in the greater Ithaca community, building playgrounds, cooking in soup kitchens, and raising money for the Finger Lakes Cancer Resource Center. Talented composers from Ithaca College and elsewhere around the country will compete for a new annual music prize, thanks to a gift in memory of music educator Richard K. Joseph '48, M.S. '53. In alternating years, the Richard K. Joseph '48, M.S. '53 Composition Prize will honor outstanding compositions for the saxophone or the piano.

One of Ithaca’s former basketball captains is still courtside these days. Dane Fischer ’02, a former point guard and team co-captain for the Bombers, has been successfully pursuing a career in men’s college basketball since 2003. Fischer was recently named assistant coach at Bucknell University in Pennsylvania.
