Hewlett Foundation Project Proposal

Humanities faculty members at Ithaca College are aiming to implement "Advanced Undergraduate Humanities Research/Development Teams." We believe that the opportunity for students to work collaboratively with each other and their instructors on digital archives, e-zines, and comparable projects will give students an experience comparable to that of undergraduate research teams in the sciences. Undergraduate collaborative research experiences in the sciences, and in other fields that offer field studies, can have a powerful impact on liberal learning, teaching intellectual skills of synthesis and professional presentation. Familiarity with digital techniques would also strengthen undergraduates' career prospects. Specific course projects range from a virtual pilgrimage to Chartres and a virtual museum of modern art to an ever-expanding web site on Oscar Wilde to course projects on nontraditional sources of 18th century history to development of teaching exercises by advanced writing students.
