FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

If a subpoena or request for records arrives in my office, what should I do?

  • First, pass the subpoena on to the department supervisor.
  • Second, the supervisor should collect any information within the department believed to be required by the subpoena.
  • Third, the supervisor should review the original materials and forward the subpoena and materials in an envelope marked "confidential" to the College Attorney's office with any background information that is pertinent.

College Counsel will review the subpoena and determine if the College should comply or if additional materials are required from another department(s).

I'm a student (or faculty member or staff member) and I need some legal advice on a personal matter. Can the College Attorney advise me?

STAFF/FACULTY: Contact ENI Life Enhancement Services, your EAP provider, 800-EAP-CALL (800-327-2255).

STUDENTS: One of the best avenues for finding legal advice is to contact the New York State Bar Association's Lawyer Referral and Information Service. Details about their service are available on their website, or you can call them at 800-342-3661.
