My teaching interests include Statistics, Research Methods, and the History of Psychology. In all of these areas, I try to integrate elements of psychology within the social and cultural context of the times. In the quantitative courses, this involves having students write about the impact of research on society and on the way that our culture influences the research we do.
In the History course, we learn about the social pressures that led to the development of various ideas and on the role of psychology on cultural, social, and political issues. I encourage students to draw parallels among the ideas that have developed in the various eras in psychology's history. They research the way psychology was approached at approximately thirty year intervals, as represented in books and journals; the end products are two papers that compare and contrast the nature of psychology at different times.
