The Ear: Three Divisions:
The external ear consists of the pinna, which collects sound.
The middle ear consists of a mechanical chain made up of three tiny bones in the ear: the hammer, anvil, and stirrup, known collectively as the ossicles.
The inner ear consists of the cochlea, a fluid-filled, coiled tunnel that contains the hair cells, the auditory receptors. The hair cells are lined up on the basilar membrane.
