FUNDAMENTALS OF BIOLOGY
303-11900
FALL 2004

Announcements:

Notice Board:

Answers to tests and class results will be posted outside CNS 102 (lab room). Check here for a list of tutors and other important notices. Students wishing to post announcements of interest to the class should bring them to Kit.

Laboratory Sessions:

Labs begin the week of August 30th. The first lab will be on Metric Measurement and Microscopy and is based on Mader's "Laboratory Manual for Inquiry Into Life". Please read over the exercise ahead of time and bring the manual to lab.

There are NO labs the week of September 6th because of the Labor Day holiday.

If you miss your regular lab session (due to illness or College-sponsored activities) you must check with your instructor ahead of time (if possible) and attend a session later in that week. The last lab is at 1:00 pm on Thursday. If you miss the week entirely you must arrange to make up the material with your lab instructor.

There are NO labs during the week of Fall Break, or Thanksgiving Break.

The final lab session during the week of December 6th will be the lab practical test. Tests will be given during the regular lab period but will be staggered in time to accomodate all lab groups. Your lab instructor will tell you what time you will take the test.

Extra help:

If these times conflict with your class schedule then I can arrange to meet you some other time. You can drop by my office but it is always best to sign up for an appointment to get my undivided attention. A schedule will be posted on my office door (CNS 158) - pencil your name in during any free slot at least 24 hours in advance and I will be happy to meet with you.

Rebekah is a Biology major ('06) and will have office hours Tuesday from 6-9 pm in the Biology conference room (CNS 163). Anthony ('05) will have office hours on Mondays from 2-3 pm also in the CNS 163.

There will also be evening review sessions prior to lecture tests. These sessions are free of charge! They will be announced in class or you can contact Rebekah or Anthony directly.

Final exam:

The final exam is on Friday, December 17th at 1:30 pm in the gym (Hill Center) and will include all the material covered in class with an emphasis on the last few chapters. Review questions will be posted prior to the final.

Do not book your travel home for the holidays prior to that date. We do not allow students to take the exam early. If you miss the final due to illness or a family emergency there will be a makeup exam given in January at the discretion of the instructor.
