description of our goals.
What is
Sustainability?
Sustainability is about satisfying our current needs
without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their
own. Simply put, sustainability is living within Earth's
limitations.
Right now we are living unsustainably. We are depleting
our natural resources faster than they can be replenished; more
people suffer from poverty, hunger, and disease than ever before;
and our current economic system of development encourages these
trends.
This calls for a new kind of development: Sustainable
Development.
The United Nations has declared 2005-2014 as the Decade of
Education for Sustainable Development. This statement is proof that
we are at the beginning of a new economic, social, and ecological
era, and recognizes the central role of education in sustianable
development. |
