Frequently Asked Questions
Who qualifies for the CPIB?
The program is open to all Ithaca College students, as well as extramural
students outside of Ithaca College. Business students with
a concentration in
international business
may not enroll in the CPIB.
How do I decide which elective courses to take?
You'll design your plan of study in close consultation with the two CPIB
faculty
advisers.
Will my liberal arts or open electives count toward my CPIB requirements?
CPIB allows you to integrate the liberal arts and open elective credits
in your major field of study into the requirements for CPIB. By planning
carefully and early in your education at Ithaca College, you will be able
to complete the requirements for both your major field of study and CPIB.
Is there a deadline to register for the CPIB?
To facilitate integration of the CPIB requirements into your major area
of study and graduate on time, it's best to register for the CPIB early
in your college studies (i.e., as a freshman), but no later than the beginning
of your fifth semester.
Transfer students:
applications
will be considered on a case-by-case
basis, and a maximum of two course waiver/substitutions will be allowed.
Can I take CPIB courses on a pass/fail basis?
A maximum of two courses in area studies/international relations can
be taken on a pass/fail basis. All other courses must be taken for a letter
grade.
Courses required for the foreign language and international business
and economics components of the certificate cannot be taken on
a pass/fail basis.
Is it possible to study abroad?
Absolutely! We strongly encourage you to take advantage of the study
abroad opportunities that are available
through
Ithaca College's Office
of International Programs. The primary consideration here is to plan
early and consult with your academic adviser and CPIB advisers.
How is the program administered?
CPIB is jointly offered by the School of Business and the School of Humanities and Sciences, and is administered by the School of Business. A standing
committee of five faculty members (one each from the Departments of Business
Administration, Modern Languages and Literatures, and Economics, and two members at large)
is in charge of curriculum review.
To maintain continuity, faculty members stagger their terms. Business
faculty serve for three years; all others serve for two years. Faculty from
business, modern languages and literatures, and economics are elected by their respective
departments. The at-large members are sought through the Faculty Council
and elected by the Ithaca College faculty.
The two CPIB faculty advisers act upon the recommendation of the standing
committee.
