Ed Tech Day At Ithaca College To Feature Latest Computer And Communications Technology
ITHACA, NY — Ithaca College’s 19th annual Educational Technology Day will be held on Thursday, March 26, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Emerson Suites and adjoining areas of the Campus Center. Sponsored by Information Technology Services (ITS), the event offers an opportunity to learn about the latest computer and communication technologies. While primarily aimed at higher education, the event also draws people from area businesses and the local community.
“Last year we attracted 600 people from off campus, representing over 120 institutions of higher education, K-12 schools, local businesses and other organizations throughout the region,” said David Weil, director of web, systems, and departmental services for ITS. “When you add in the 1,000 Ithaca College faculty, staff and students who attend, that makes Ed Tech Day the largest multiplatform, multivendor technology show for higher education in upstate New York.”
Educational Technology Day has three components: a vendor technology showcase, a college showcase and a series of seminars. The vendor showcase, which runs all day, will feature major hardware and software vendors and local dealers demonstrating the latest technology. The emphasis will be on how current technology can be used by faculty, staff and students. The list of vendors this year includes Apple, Dell, Epson, Brother, Hewlett Packard, IBM, Microsoft, Blackboard and more than 45 others.
The college showcase features Ithaca College faculty and staff members demonstrating how they are making use of educational technology, both in and out of the classroom.
A series of free 50-minute seminars presented by the vendors and others will run throughout the day. Topics will include network security, mobile computing, green computing and classroom technology. These seminars are open to all and no advance sign-ups are required.
While there is no charge to attend Ed Tech Day, those planning to attend are asked to register via the website at www.ithaca.edu/edtechday, which also features the full schedule for the day. For more information, contact ITS at firstname.lastname@example.org or (607) 274-1000.
