Sustainable Management Experts To Give Two Public Presentations At Ithaca College

ITHACA, NY — Sustainable management experts Jean Garner Stead and W. Edward Stead will give two free public presentations during a visit to Ithaca College. The Steads — who are both on the faculty of the Department of Management and Marketing at East Tennessee State University — will discuss their pioneering work in sustainable organizational practice. They are the authors of the textbooks “Management for a Small Planet: Strategic Decision Making and the Environment” and “Sustainable Strategic Management.”

The Steads will discuss how strategic business management and effective organizational leadership can be woven together with a clear-eyed sensitivity to environmental issues. The talk is part of the School of Business Sustainability Speaker Series and Distinguished Executive Lecture Series, sponsored by Tompkins Trust Company.

The Steads will share their perspective on the challenges and opportunities for leaders seeking to embrace sustainability as an organizational value, and the trajectory of sustainability thinking and practice in the business sector. The presentation is part of the Sustainability Café series and will feature “teachable edibles” — seasonal, organic and/or local foods — provided by Ithaca College Dining Services.

In addition to the public presentations, the Steads will offer advice to Ithaca College faculty on “Greening Your Curriculum” in a workshop sponsored by the Center for Faculty Excellence and School of Business. The workshop will focus on applications of sustainability in teaching business, policy, history, economics, sociology and marketing communications, among other areas.
