Business Administration Major, Management Concentration
New City, New York
"I'm a planner," says business administration student Brian Solomon. "My first year, I got involved right away, developing programs for various groups -- the business school at Ithaca offers so many opportunities."
Brian's talent for planning gets called on a lot. "The Deans' Hosts organization is in charge of admission programs for the School of Business. As the director of programs, I coordinate business admission events in the fall and participate in Ithaca Today, where accepted students can spend the day getting a feel for life as business students at the College. I give a presentation, 'School of Business in Action,' that illustrates the numerous opportunities to make an impact at Ithaca."
His mentoring continues after students' arrival on campus: "I'm a peer adviser, which has been really rewarding. I help first-year business students with the transition into college life by helping them register for the right classes and get involved in clubs and internships."
Leading by example, Brian parlayed his lifelong devotion to the New York Rangers into an internship at Madison Square Garden this past year. "I love the Rangers," he says, "and I figured if anyone knew how to plan major events, it was the people at MSG." Ithaca's internship coordinator led him to the right contacts, and he got a job helping plan the logistics for some of the Garden's biggest events.
"There's no doubt Ithaca has prepared me for life after college," says Brian. "And there isn't a student here who can't benefit from the great opportunities the College presents. Whether it means taking a leadership role, giving a presentation to a certain group, or experiencing an internship, the opportunities are here. I just made sure to grab them."
