Mentoring
About the Program
The Ithaca College School of Business Mentoring Program was created to compliment the Business Link Professions Program which aims to prepare students for professional opportunities. The goal of this program is to give business students a viable and effective network of contacts to assist them in their academic planning and career endeavors.
Being a mentor allows a person to advise and impact the next generation of leaders. Mentors have an opportunity to share their wealth of experiences, knowledge and skills with a student mentee. The period of mentorship is one academic year (August - May) but can be extended if desired.
The nature of the mentor relationship is driven by the mentor’s available time and the student’s needs, usually no more than one hour a month. Student participation in this program is not mandatory, however, their level of commitment is monitored through outreach and periodic evaluations. The student is responsible for nurturing the relationship by being in contact with their mentor once a month, providing updates on previous discussions or asking new questions.
Once a mentor commits to this program, there is no orientation or training session, no scheduled regimen of meetings and events, nor required activities or tasks. Monthly e-mail communication assists mentors through the duration of the program. Additional resources are provided to assist with the initial mentoring process.
