The Major

Freshman Year

During your first semester at Ithaca College, you will take basic, introductory courses that set the stage for your study of law and legal issues. Sometimes, you may feel "ready to go" and want to immediately take law courses. It is important, however, that you receive a broad education based in liberal arts courses. Liberal arts courses include English, History, Art, Anthropology, Sociology, Philosophy and Psychology, to name a few. Your first semester will include a communications course, either Business and Professional Communications or Public Communications. Then you will be part of a mock trial in the new course "Courtrooms & Communications." You will take a writing course and two of your "Gen. Ed" or liberal arts requirements. During the second semester, you will study law and lawyers in the media at our world renowned Park School of Communications in the course "Law and the Media" and begin looking at the interrelationship of law with our political system in the course "Political Justice."
