Happiness

By Fred A. Wilcox

On a New Year's night we danced

Thigh making love romance

Heart to heart we clasped

You hair inflamed my lips

Your breath stopped my breathing

Your eyes took away my sight

On an ice-lit night

We waltzed

Waves chewing at our feet

Slashing at our knees

Burning into our thighs

We couldn't stop until it crested high

Above our bloated rhythms.

But, oh my darling

I will never forget your eyes

Your hair your breath your thighs

The night we drowned together

One last time

Like lovers

Hand in barnacle hand

Rising to the bottom of

Our storm-ravaged lives.
