Ithaca is known for its artist-friendly atmosphere. Some people even say creativity comes from the waters of Lake Cayuga. Maybe so. But artisans and curators alike are all over the place, showing their work at galleries across town, accessible by foot or bus. Take a Saturday afternoon or some weekday evening, and check out what the area museums and galleries have to offer. Most of these places are free, and most of the work is constantly changing. Here's your list of things to see in March...

Artifax, 124 S. Cayuga St. 272-3121

The artwork of painters Amy Limbrecht and Anne Bialke is on continuous exhibit at this gallery. Occasionally, other artists' work is shown as well.

Hours: Mon., Tues., Wed. 10-6, Thurs., 10-8, Sat. 10-5

State of the Art Gallery, 120 W. State St. 277-1626

The current exhibit is called Matrilineal-all sculpture and installation in ceramic and metal by Ann Johnston Miller.
