For those of us who attended Ithaca College in the spring of 2003, the memories of mass-protests that literally brought the campus and the city to a standstill are still vibrant against the current backdrop of the Iraq War. I was at the Free Speech Rock the day the war started, and I felt the heat created by the enraged throng in the cold, dampness on that rock, the precipice of what’s being called our generation’s Vietnam. As a community, we’ve signed petitions, staged demonstrations, and started e-mail- and letter-writing campaigns in an effort to rally the power of the masses. Yet today, several months after a tumultuous inauguration day spattered with anti-Bush rallies and marches, here we sit bemoaning the state of our disunion and asking, “Now what?”
