Izzy Awards: Honoring Mother Jones
The fifth annual Izzy Award for independent media – named after dissident journalist I.F. “Izzy” Stone – is being given to MOTHER JONES. The nonprofit outlet broke major stories in 2012 on issues ranging from mass shootings to the presidential election – including release of the now-infamous video in which candidate Mitt Romney
described 47% of voters as government-dependent
people “who believe that they are victims.”
Speaking at the ceremony will be Washington Bureau Chief DAVID CORN (who exposed the 47% video), publisher STEVE KATZ and environmental reporter KATE SHEPPARD, an Ithaca College
graduate.
