Far more Ithaca students want to be involved in athletics than can be included on varsity rosters. Thanks to intramural and club sports, everyone can find a place to play.
Brandi Bossinger ’07 had dreams of playing on the varsity basketball team. When that didn’t work out, she turned instead to club sports and embraced the challenge of starting a student-run women’s team. Intramurals and club sports are the ultimate pick-up game, where students organize and run the teams, and even raise money to pay team expenses. The College does its best to provide some measure of support from a stretched budget. Supporting the A&E center will lend a hand to all IC athletes.

Physical Therapy Club Sports: Basketball, Rugby, and Soccer “I was the MVP on my high school basketball team, and looked forward to joining the varsity team at IC. Unfortunately, that did not work out. Someone said if I wanted to keep playing basketball, I should start a women’s club team. So I did.” |

Making the Most of It: |
“In high school I was very active in athletics and knew I wanted the same in my college experience. I like being busy and involved. That’s why I also joined the women’s rugby and soccer club teams.” |

Athletics and Joy: |
“Physical therapy was a demanding major and sports offered the perfect outlet to unwind. No matter how challenging the day in class, it was a joy to look forward to getting out later for a practice or a game.” |
|
College Expectations: |
“I perform best when I have a lot to do, whether it’s in class, on the field, or organizing the club team. Being very busy is exactly what I expected college would be like.” |

Personal Comment: |
“I hope the College and the alumni understand there are many of us who may not appear on varsity or junior varsity rosters, yet depend on athletics to find a fulfilling college experience.” |
