The value of a residential college experience is to immerse students in an environment that surrounds them with learning, and where lessons are not limited to the classroom.
A pledge to provide such a rich educational atmosphere lies at the heart of the College's mission statement: “Learning at Ithaca extends beyond the classroom to encompass a broad range of residential, professional, and extracurricular opportunities.”
Athletics represents a vital part of that promise, and provides a logical and natural extension of the academic experience. All athletes at Ithaca – intercollegiate student-athletes, club sports players, and intramural participants – share multiple advantages through their association with athletics.
Ithaca’s students also share athletic facilities. The new A&E center will directly affect several intercollegiate teams, whose use of the new center will free existing resources that in turn will be refurbished and reallocated to upgrade other athletic programs. Accordingly, an investment in the A&E center will ultimately benefit all athletes at the College.
Club volleyball player Emma Steurer says IC has a lot be proud of. “We have more athletic opportunities at IC than most other schools,” she said. Read Emma's comments in A Tradition of Athletic Opportunity.
