The new athletics and events center is the first step in a long-range plan to bring a major upgrade to Ithaca College athletics. The A&E center will establish a new home for sports on campus, and serve as an anchor to which additional sporting venues will be added in subsequent phases as funding permits.
The new center puts a stake in the ground – literally and figuratively – toward realizing a long-held vision to create a sports complex on South Hill. The project will elevate the College’s athletics facilities to match the quality of its academic resources.
In brief:
• The first phase of the project, now seeking alumni support in the Campaign for Ithaca College, will include a large indoor athletic venue.
• The indoor venue will accommodate a wide range of athletic uses, including team practices and intercollegiate competitions.
• The facility will be large enough for the campus population to gather as a community for large events such as lectures, concerts, and Commencements.
• The project will include an adjacent outdoor turf field with lighting for night use, that will also serve multiple activities.
• When the A&E center opens, the teams and programs that move there will create vacancies in existing facilities that will be refurbished and reallocated to bring a further wave of athletic improvements across campus.
Athletics contribute an important piece to the IC experience. Did you know that more than half of Ithaca’s students participate in athletics? See Athletic Opportunities Matter to Students.
