Mission Statement:To promote health, fraternity, cultural awareness, and non-violent self-defense through the Brazilian tradition of Capoeira. |

Who We Are:Capoeira IC is the recognized Capoeira Organization for Ithaca College, located in Upstate New York. Our group is led by four Ithaca College student executive officers: David Moulthrop, Justin Benson, Cory Fazio, and Abbey Kirk. |

Our PracticeCapoeira IC is committed to practicing the style of Capoeira known as Angola. Contrary to the faster, more aggressive styles of Capoeira, Angola is played at a moderate pace in order to focus more on grace and thoughtfulness than speed and flair. Our specific group is an offshoot of the group headed by Mestre No in New York city called Capoeira Angola Dos Palmares, after a historical village of capoeiristas. Although we play a predominantly Angola style, movements and elements of controlled Capoeira Regional are also of value in our classes and rodas. |

Class & Roda TimesClasses for the Spring 2003 semester are held every Sunday from 4-6pm and Wednesday from 9-11pm in the Ithaca College Fitness Center. Loose fitting pants and a tuckable t-shirt are recommended attire for class. A full roda (Capoeira circle) with bateria (instruments and singing) at the end of each class will provide an opportunity to apply learned skills in a jogo (friendly game) situation. Beginners are more than welcome to come as we are trying to build a campus community of Capoeiristas. For more information on Capoeira IC, or to book us for a demonstration/workshop, write to David Moulthrop. | |||
