Graduation RequirementsThe graduate programs in the Department of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology do not offer a pass/fail grading option for any class or clinical practicum experience. Degree requirements for all programs must be completed within six years of the matriculation date. Speech-Language Pathology (SLP)Requirements1. Matriculated status 2. Completion of a minimum of 52 graduate credits distributed in the following manner: · Speech-language pathology required courses, 22 credits · Practica and externships, 15 credits · Audiology course, 3 credits · Speech-language pathology electives, 12 credits 3. Passing the comprehensive examination if 621-68000 Thesis is not elected. (Details for the examination and thesis are available through the Department of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.) Teaching Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD)Requirements1. Matriculated status 2. Completion of a minimum of 54 graduate credits distributed in the following manner with a grade of B (3.00) or better in each required course: · Speech-language pathology required courses, 30 credits · Practica and externships, 15 credits · Audiology course, 3 credits · Speech-language pathology electives, 6 credits 3. Passing the comprehensive examination if 621-68000 Thesis is not elected. (Details for the examination and thesis are available through the Department of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.) 4. Additional requirements beyond the TSSLD degree for the New York TSSLD credential include the following: · A year of college-level study in a language other than English · A 3-credit course in history · 621-69800 Professional Experience in Education and Reflective Seminars on the Practical Issues of Teaching · Seminar in Violence Identification and Prevention · Seminar in Drug and Alcohol Abuse These courses may be taken before or after admission into the graduate program. Certification is not automatic but is awarded only to those individuals who have completed an approved teacher education program such as ours, achieved passing scores on required teacher education examinations, and applied for certification from the appropriate state education department.
