Classification of Undergraduate Courses

The titles of most courses in this catalog are followed by a designation code. All Ithaca College undergraduate courses are designated as either liberal arts (LA) or non-liberal arts (NLA). Most courses in the School of Humanities and Sciences are further classified in one of four distribution categories (fine arts, humanities, natural sciences/mathematics, social/behavioral sciences). Courses not carrying a distribution designation are classified as undesignated. Some courses also carry designations pertaining to the general education requirements in the School of Humanities and Sciences. Courses for which a designation is not given are under review by the Academic Policies Committee.
