General Information

For a complete listing of Ithaca College faculty, refer to the undergraduate catalog.

Bookstore

The Ithaca College bookstore, located in the Phillips Hall annex, is open Monday through Friday during the summer. Besides textbooks and general interest books, the bookstore offers a large selection of clothing, greeting cards, photography supplies and services, telephones, tape recorders, radios, lamps, and other items for student apartments and rooms. A coin-operated photocopier is also located in the bookstore.

Campus Safety

Dial 911 for an emergency response from the Office of Campus Safety. The office is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Its mission is to provide a safer and more secure environment for the Ithaca College community. If you have questions or concerns regarding the safety and security of people or property, please contact the Office of Campus Safety. In an emergency, call 911 or use an emergency or blue-light telephone. Otherwise, call the office at 607-274-3333.

Career Services

The career services office is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Career counselors are available, by appointment, to meet with students about choosing a major, conducting a job search, or career development. Recruitment is active in the summer, offering a variety of employment opportunities and résumé referrals.

College Liability

Ithaca College will neither insure nor assume responsibility for the personal property of a summer sessions participant. It is the responsibility of each participant to provide insurance protection against loss of personal property brought on campus.

Computing Facilities

Academic Computing and Client Services (ACCS), located in 102 Muller Faculty Center, operates over 15 general-access computer labs throughout the campus. These labs are equipped with Macintosh and Windows-based computers (over 400 machines in all), a wide range of up-to-date software applications, and laser and dot matrix printers. During the summer various labs around campus are open throughout the day and evening (check lab doors for the current schedule or go online to www.ithaca.edu/ computing) and may be used, at no charge, by any student with a valid Ithaca College ID.

The campus is entirely networked for high-speed data access. Students can access the e-mail server, Nova file server, library system, College Web server, and Internet from virtually anywhere on campus. Members of the ACCS staff provide free workshops and consulting services to Ithaca College students and faculty, and the ACCS computer help desk is available to assist all members of the College community during business hours. To open an e-mail account or for more information, stop by the ACCS main office or call 607-274-3030.

Conduct

All summer sessions participants are required to abide by Ithaca College policies and procedures.

Health Care

During the summer the J. David Hammond Center for Student Health Services is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. The staff nurse can provide first aid and treat minor problems. A College physician is also available during regularly scheduled hours each day. If necessary, referrals are made to local physicians and medical facilities. Fees are charged for medications dispensed at the health center as well as services at all off-campus physician offices and medical facilities. Students must pay these fees at the time of the visit.

Identification Card

Students need an Ithaca College identification card to obtain a summer parking permit, check out books from the library, set up a computer account to use a computer lab, pick up mail at the post office, and use the Fitness Center and the outdoor swimming pool.

Matriculated and extramural students who already have an Ithaca College ID card and have registered for one or both of the five-week summer sessions may continue to use their ID, but only during the five-week summer session(s) they have registered for. The first replacement fee for a lost or stolen ID card is $10.00.

New matriculated students and first-time extramural students must have a photo taken for their ID card upon arrival on campus. Instructions for that procedure will be sent upon confirmation of summer class registration. Late registrants must come to the sum- mer sessions office for instructions about their ID card.

Extramural students taking short-term workshops only will be sent a temporary ID card with confirmation of summer class registration. Late registrants must come to the summer sessions office for ID instructions.

Library

There are plans for major renovations of the Ithaca College library this summer. Library staff will be available to work closely with students to make sure that they have access to books and research material for summer coursework. Ask for assistance at the reference or circulation desk.

Mac’s General Store

Mac’s, a convenience grocery store, is located next to the bookstore. Open Monday through Friday during the summer, it sells a variety of convenience foods, snacks, frozen foods, candy, cigarettes, soda, milk, paper products, magazines, and health and beauty aids.

Mail should be addressed to students enrolled in the summer sessions as follows:

Ithaca, NY 14850-7076

All mail for summer sessions students is distributed from the Phillips Hall post office. Hours for pickup are 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Ithaca College ID is required.

Meal Plan

Prepaid meal plans are available for the summer sessions. See the housing and meal plan application contained in this catalog.

Students do not need to live on campus in order to purchase a meal plan. However, undergraduate students who plan to live in campus residence halls during the summer must buy a meal plan. Those students should complete the meal request portion of the housing and meal plan application contained in this catalog.

On-Campus Summer Housing

Students who wish to live on campus should complete the housing and meal plan application contained in this catalog and return it, with full payment, to the Office of Conference and Event Services before the start of classes. Advance registration will guarantee a space on campus. Although the College will make every effort to accommodate students’ preferences, space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Under-graduate students living in campus residence halls are required to purchase a meal plan for the duration of their stay. For those not wishing to be on the meal plan, efficiencies are available in the Garden Apartments, but only for summer session I.

Residence hall rooms include twin-size beds, pillows, and one blanket per bed. Sheets, pillowcases, and bath towels are also supplied and can be exchanged each week. Occupants should bring a bedspread or cover, an extra blanket (not electric), clothes hangers, and a desk lamp. Coin-operated washers and dryers are available in each residence hall.

Emerson Hall rooms are equipped with all of the above and are air-conditioned. Each room has a private bathroom with shower.

(During the summer the Traffic Bureau’s hours are 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.) Summer sessions students with vehicles displaying a valid red permit may park in any red lot and in the blue portion of J lot from Commencement day through the day before classes begin for the fall semester. Vehicles parked in restricted areas may be towed away at the owners’ expense. The speed limit on campus roads is 25 miles per hour and 10 miles per hour in parking lots.

Pets

Pets are not allowed on campus.

Recreation

The Fitness Center and outdoor pool are open during the summer sessions (operating hours are posted at the center and the pool, as well as online at www.ithaca.edu/recsports). Summer sessions students, matriculating Ithaca College students, and spring 2001 graduates may use both facilities by presenting their Ithaca College ID card. The Fitness Center has an exercise area with over 40 pieces of cardiovascular equipment, two weight-stack circuits, and a variety of plate-loaded and free-weight equipment. The center’s two gymnasiums are used for informal recreation and pickup games. Equipment for these activities is available from the equipment room. Other campus recreation facilities include the outdoor tennis courts and track and the Phillips Hall recreation center.

Services for Students with Disabilities

Ithaca College seeks to ensure that all qualified students with

disabilities are able to participate fully in its programs and activities. If you have a documented disability or feel you may have an undiagnosed learning problem, please feel free to contact the Office of Academic Support Services for Students with Disabilities at 607-274-1005.

You may make free, unlimited calls to campus and local numbers from your room; if you wish to make long-distance calls, you must use your own long-distance calling card.
