General Information
BookstoreThe Ithaca College bookstore, located in the Phillips Hall annex, is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., during the summer. Besides textbooks and general interest books, the bookstore offers a large selection of clothing, greeting cards, photography supplies and services, telephones, tape recorders, radios, lamps, and other items for student apartments and rooms. A coin-operated photocopier is also located in the bookstore. Campus SafetyDial 911 for an emergency response from the Office of Campus Safety. The office is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Its mission is to provide a safer and more secure environment for the Ithaca College community. If you have questions or concerns regarding the safety and security of people or property, please contact the Office of Campus Safety. In an emergency, call 911 or use an emergency or blue-light telephone. Otherwise, call the office at 607-274-3333. Career ServicesThe career services office is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Career counselors are available, by appointment, to meet with students about choosing a major, conducting a job search, or career development. Recruitment is active in the summer, offering a variety of employment opportunities and résumé referrals. College LiabilityIthaca College will neither insure nor assume responsibility for the personal property of a summer sessions participant. It is the responsibility of each participant to provide insurance protection against loss of personal property brought on campus. Computing FacilitiesAcademic Computing and Client Services (ACCS), located in 102 Muller Faculty Center, provides computing support to all members of the campus community and maintains an extensive collection of programming languages, data-analysis packages, and business programs. Networked microcomputers, both Windows-based and Macintosh, are available in more than a dozen general-access computer facilities across campus. During the summer various labs around campus are open throughout the day and evening (check lab doors for the current schedule or go online to www.ithaca.edu/computing) and may be used, at no charge, by any student with a valid Ithaca College ID. The campus is entirely networked for high-speed data access. Students can access the e-mail server, Nova file server, library system, College Web server, and Internet from virtually anywhere on campus. There are no charges for computer or network use. Members of the ACCS staff provide free workshops and consulting services to Ithaca College students and faculty, and the ACCS computer help desk is available to assist all members of the College community during business hours. ConductAll summer sessions participants are required to abide by Ithaca College policies and procedures. Food CourtThe food court, located on the first floor of Phillips Hall, offers a wide variety of food at modest prices. During the summer it is open from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Grand Central Café is open in the summer from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, for coffee, pastries, and smoothies. Health CareDuring the summer the J. David Hammond Center for Student Health Services is open Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. The staff nurse can provide first aid and treat minor problems. A College physician is also available during regularly scheduled hours each day. If necessary, referrals are made to local physicians and medical facilities. Fees are charged for medications dispensed at the health center as well as services at all off-campus physician offices and medical facilities. Students must pay these fees at the time of the visit. Identification CardStudents need an Ithaca College identification card to obtain a summer parking permit, check out books from the library, set up a computer account to use a computer lab, pick up mail at the post office, and use the Fitness Center and the outdoor swimming pool. Matriculated and extramural students who already have an Ithaca College ID card and have registered for one or both of the five-week summer sessions may continue to use their ID, but only during the five-week summer session(s) they have registered for. The first replacement fee for a lost or stolen ID card is $10.00. New matriculated students and first-time extramural students must have a photo taken for their ID card upon arrival on campus. Instructions for that procedure will be sent with confirmation of summer class registration. Late registrants must come to the summer sessions office for instructions about their ID card. Extramural students taking short-term workshops only will be sent a temporary ID card with their confirmation of summer class registration. Reference librarians are available to show students and faculty how to use various print references as well as the Internet and the latest electronic indexing and abstracting services. They can also recommend appropriate materials and research strategies. The multimedia services center, located in the library, offers videos, films, laser discs, interactive media, and educational software developed commercially or by the faculty and staff at the College. Mac’s General StoreMac’s, a convenience store, is located next to the bookstore. Open Monday through Friday during the summer, it sells convenience foods, snacks, frozen foods, candy, cigarettes, soda, milk, paper products, magazines, and health and beauty aids. All mail for summer sessions students is distributed from the Phillips Hall post office. Hours for pickup are 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Ithaca College ID is required. Meal PlanPrepaid meal plans are available for the summer sessions. See the housing and meal plan application contained in this catalog. Students do not need to live on campus in order to purchase a meal plan. However, undergraduate students who plan to live in campus residence halls during the summer must buy a meal plan. Those students should complete the meal request portion of the housing and meal plan application contained in this catalog. On-Campus Summer HousingStudents who wish to live on campus should complete the housing and meal plan application (PDF) and return it, with full payment, to the Office of Conference and Event Services before the start of classes. Advance registration will guarantee a space on campus. Although the College will make every effort to accommodate students’ preferences, space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Undergraduate students living in campus residence halls are required to purchase a meal plan for the duration of their stay. For those not wishing to be on the meal plan, efficiencies may be available in the Garden Apartments, but only for summer session I. Residence hall rooms include twin-size beds, pillows, and one blanket per bed. Sheets, pillowcases, and bath towels are also supplied and can be exchanged each week. Occupants should bring a bedspread or cover, an extra blanket (not electric), clothes hangers, and a desk lamp. Coin-operated washers and dryers are available in each residence hall. Emerson Hall rooms may be available. They are equipped with all of the above and are air-conditioned. Each room has a private bathroom with shower.
Cancellation of room reservations will be accepted, and a full refund given, up to one week before the start of the reservation. After that time, refunds will be given but a $50 administrative fee will be deducted. Notice of cancellation must be received by the Office of Conference and Event Services in writing. Check-In --- Students who make arrangements to stay in campus housing may pick up room keys from the summer housing office, located in Eastman Hall. Students may check in no earlier than 3:00 p.m. on the day before their session begins. On the day their session starts, they may check in anytime after 9:00 a.m. The summer housing office in Eastman Hall is open until 9:00 each evening. Students unable to arrive for check-in before 9:00 p.m. should contact the housing office, beginning May 20, at 607-274-1637 to make special arrangements. Checkout --- Students may check out on the last Friday or Saturday of each session. Students should consult the summer housing staff in Eastman Hall for proper checkout procedures. Parking and Traffic RegulationsStudents may park on campus without charge. However, vehicles must be registered with the Traffic Bureau. (During the summer the bureau’s hours are 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.) Summer sessions students with vehicles displaying a valid red permit may park in any red lot and in the blue portion of J lot from Commencement day through the day before classes begin for the fall semester. Vehicles parked in restricted areas may be towed away at the owners’ expense. The speed limit on campus roads is 25 miles per hour and 10 miles per hour in parking lots. PetsPets are not allowed on campus. RecreationThe Fitness Center and outdoor pool are open during the summer sessions (operating hours are posted at the center and the pool, as well as online at www.ithaca.edu/recsports). Summer sessions students, matriculating Ithaca College students, and spring 2002 graduates may use both facilities by presenting their Ithaca College ID card. The Fitness Center has an exercise area with over 40 pieces of cardiovascular equipment, two weight-stack circuits, and a variety of plate-loaded and free-weight equipment. The center’s two gymnasiums are used for informal recreation and pickup games. Equipment for these activities is available from the equipment room. Other campus recreation facilities include the outdoor tennis courts and track. Services for Students with DisabilitiesIthaca College seeks to ensure that all qualified students with disabilities are able to participate fully in its programs and activities. If you have a documented disability or feel you may have an undiagnosed learning problem, please feel free to contact the Office of Academic Support Services for Students with Disabilities at 607-274-1005. TelephonesPublic telephones are not available in residence halls; however, they are located in most classroom buildings and in the Campus Center. If you are staying on campus, your room will have a live telephone jack, but you must provide your own instrument. may make free, unlimited calls to campus and local numbers from your room; if you wish to make long-distance calls, you must use your own long- distance calling card.
