Summer Study AbroadDominican RepublicCross-Cultural Psychology Students are introduced to the methodology for cross-cultural research. They then explore the impact of social and cultural variables on the psychology and development of the individual. The trip offers hands-on experience, visits to different organizations, and involvement in the community. Health Care and Culture: An International Field Experience This course looks at sociocultural context in the delivery of health care and rehabilitation services in the Dominican Republic, providing firsthand experience. Students examine social, political, economic, and cultural factors in this developing country and investigate how they influence health care and the status of individuals with disabilities. ItalyFilm Studies in Southern Italy Students investigate the theoretical and practical aspects of the short film, thereby expanding their area studies while developing cultural awareness and sensitivity. The styles of noted Italian directors are analyzed, and workshops are given in preproduction planning, camera techniques, lighting, interviewing, dramatization, and postproduction. Italy: Language and Culture Open to students who have completed at least one semester of Italian study, this experiential, three-week summer program combines practice of conversational Italian with a cultural tour of historically important Italian cities. The program is based in the charming city of Siena and includes visits to Florence, Pisa, Venice, Cinque Terre, and Rome. Photo Italy: Picturing the Culture and Landscape of Florence Students continue their photographic work in the lush cultural setting of Florence. Lectures and assignments encompass both spontaneous and more deliberate image-making approaches, accommodating a wide range of photographic interests and emphases. The program includes walking tours of Florence and Siena led by local art historians and weekly shooting excursions to such cities as Siena, Pisa, and San Gimignano. LondonInternational Sports Administration Students explore selected topics --- such as international sports marketing, the history of sport, and international sport development --- in an informal setting. The program is based at the Ithaca College London Center but includes trips to other English and European cities as well. PeruArchaeological Fieldwork in the Cotahuasi Valley Outside the town of Alca, in the Cotahuasi Valley of southern Peru, is an obsidian source that was used by native peoples for thousands of years. In this course, students conduct a pedestrian survey of a 25-km area around Alca, looking for archaeological sites near the obsidian source. When potentially early sites are located, they conduct test excavations to retrieve radiocarbon samples for dating. Evenings are spent processing the artifacts collected each day.
