Continuing Education Programs
Continuing Professional Education
This daylong conference, presented in cooperation with the Ithaca
College Gerontology Institute, with support from the Central New
York Area Health Education Center, Pfizer Laboratories, and Abbott
Labs, will examine the latest diagnostic and drug treatments as well
as social intervention techniques. Dementia in minority populations,
the phenomenology of caring for a person with dementia, coping skills
for family and professional caregivers, Parkinson's disease, dementia
in the developmentally disabled, treatment in the acute care setting,
and case management approaches will be presented. Register online

Designed for health care providers and musicians, this comprehensive
program of seminars and workshops focuses on health and musical performance.
A multidisciplinary faculty will examine the physical and mental
factors that affect both the musician and performance and will discuss
the care and prevention of music-related injuries. Descriptions of
the individual workshops and the two levels are provided in the Healthy
Musician brochure and at www.ithaca.edu/cess. To register, you must
complete the registration form in the Healthy Musician brochure,
which is available from the summer sessions office. 1 credit per
level or noncredit.
This workshop increases the competence of individuals who conduct
exercise programs for healthy people or those with controlled diseases.
The American College of Sports Medicine grants the certification
of health/fitness instructor to candidates who successfully complete
the examination given on Friday, July 25.
Programs for Children and Youth
This is a comprehensive program of varied musical experiences for
talented young pianists, aged 12 through 18. Participants use the
superb facilities of the James J. Whalen Center for Music, where
a nationally and internationally known piano faculty provides a lively
array of daily lessons, workshops, classes, and supervised practice.
Recreational and social activities, such as field trips and picnics,
are offered, too. The institute is residential, but commuters are
also welcome. To apply, you must complete the application in the

Leadership and Empowerment Workshop for Girls
July 21 - 25
This new program is designed for girls entering grades 7 through
9 in fall 2003. Participants will learn empowerment and group dynamics,
and work on self-esteem and leadership skills. Enrollment is limited
and is on a first-come, first-served basis. To apply, you must complete
the application in the Leadership and Empowerment Workshop for Girls
brochure, which is available from the summer sessions office. |
